For several decades Nordstrom has been a leader and shorten setter within the retail business sector. Along with uncommon and upscale clothing the store has set itself apart with its magnificent customer process that has given the company a warring advantage against similar competitors. In order for the company to take note such a high standard in customer service an employee reward system was put into place in the mid 1960s. This system has maintained and even im prove the aim of customer service but it has also created a ostracise working environment in which competitive driven employees enlarge while many others feel cheated and left behind. Although this approach has proved to be successful business wise it has also created a backlash of stinky media for the company. The reward system is not bad by design but its major flaws reside in the application of the system by middle management.
John W. Nordstrom founded Nordstrom in 1901 as a shoe store oriented to women shoppers. by the years the company has diversified and has become one of the steer retailers of high end apparel, shoes and accessories.
By the end of 1989, Nordstrom department stores sales were close to $3 billion with one of the highest pull in margins in the industry. Nordstrom which went public in 1971 (NYSE:Â JWN), has been managed by the Nordstrom family, who until present twenty-four hour period still own about half of the company. The family has maintained the philosophical system of the companys founder: offer the customer the trounce in service, selection, quality, and value. This philosophy has helped Nordstrom gain a goodish market share while enjoying over 20 years of uninterrupted earnings growth [Stevenson 1989].
