Bono Memoir
My first of many trips to Africa withalk me to Ethiopia. I remember it considerably because I witnessed things that I could nalways for present. These things changed my life forever.
That summer, my wife, Ali, and I stayed in a small hut for four weeks, helping with the shortfall relief program and working in an orphanage. Even though we were there to help, I believe we got a lot much back. We got the experience of helping others and learning while doing so. Its remaining how the fortune to help the world hangs over every ones head, that few realize it. Why not take it? umteen people may look at it as too much work and lost time. When, in reality, its an opportunity to learn, and experience the joy of giving. For me, the gift of giving is about the silk hat feeling there is. It makes me feel like Im doing something worthwhile on this earth.
Throughout my visit, I witnessed disturbing events. good deal were dying from hunger, AIDS, and other diseases, every day. whole of which are potentially preventable. Why have we forgotten about Africa? Would this situation ever happen to a country such as America, or France? Our levels of compassion and concern have dropped for Africa.
Somehow, weve come to believe that Africa is little than equal to other, richer countries. Weve forgotten that Africa is a country full of people, too. So, we wear by, watching while people die from preventable diseases.
If everybody accredited that Africa was equal to us, would they do more to help? Not entirely do we have the knowledge, but the technology, too. Weve come a huge way in the digital world. The physical world isnt as different as we think. Weve invented things that couldve never been imagined and changed things that we never ideal we could. Its time to do the same to our physical world. All it takes is the belief that we can, and then apply a little imagination.
