An Investigation Into the Reaction Kinetics of an Iodine- Propanone Reaction with an Acid Catalyst

An Investigation to larn the reaction kinetics of the Iodine-Propanone reaction

The Aim for this probe to intention the reaction between Iodine and Propanone, with an acid catalyst, to determine the reaction kinetics of each of the reactants and find out which roam each of the reactants is and to develop a rate equation. This will be done by changing the concentrations of the reactants and reacting them in a tintometer and measuring the colour change over time by measuring the percentage of light absorbed over a constant period of time.

Equation- CH3COCH3(aq) + I2(aq) ? CH3COCH2I(aq) + H+(aq) + I-(aq)

This is a electrical switch reaction because a Hydrogen atom gets substituted for an Iodine atom.
The mathematical function of the acid catalyst is to speed up the otherwise wispy rate of reaction.
Nuc: + R-LG ? R-Nuc + LG:
The electron pair (:) from the nucleophile (Nuc) attacks the substrate (R-LG) forming a bracing bond, while the leaving group (LG) departs with an electron pair. The principal harvest-festival in this case is R-Nuc. The nucleophile may be electrically soggy or negatively charged, whereas the substrate is typically neutral or positively charged.

Colorimeter

It is a simple type of manifest spectrophotometer. It is used to measure the intensity of absorption of coloured compounds over a narrow range of frequencies. Colorimetry is useful in finding the concentration of a coloured compound at different times during a reaction in a rate experiment to find the order of the reaction. In my reaction the colour changes during the reaction are very baseborn, too small to measure with just the human eye so the use of a...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
